DESCRIPTION: 

I have no interest in recording in jungles. The soundscape there are too dense. I love the subtle sounds of almost silent spaces. 

Scots pines are beautiful tree that I heard for the first time in Lapland. As the birders would say, a "lifer". But I'm a treehugger that likes to keep a life list of trees, not birds. Scots are distinctive because the bark thins from brown to a gorgeous orange as you go up the trunk. 

Because of recent glaciation (up until about 10,000 years ago) Scots pines are one of the few species of trees in northern Finland. And they often grow in single species groves. So you are really hear just the sound of this one tree. Wind is Scots pine is something between a Pinyon pine and a Ponderosa pine. That's because of the Scots mid-length needle. The pitch of the wind correlates with the length of the needle, so this wind has a mid/low tone that is extremely calming and buttery smooth.
