DESCRIPTION:
Lava caves. Lava tubes. Rippling rocks in overlapping multicolor layers. Volcanic environments are strange and beautiful places. Lava fields are places of recent fury like walking through a scarred forest after a wildfire ripped through. The surface folds and ripples of lava rocks do weird things to the wind.
The strange turbulence has an ominous tone to it that I haven't heard in other ecosystems. My favorite place to record was at the tail end of small lava tubes.
It's always challenging to record airy tones in almost silent spaces. It's the wind resonating in rock chambers at almost inaudible levels. If you were out there listening live, you'd definitely hear your own heartbeat. It's that quiet.
I hope you enjoy the desolate soundscapes of sleeping volcanoes. If you take the time to lay down on the lava rocks and deeply listen, you can almost feel the heat of the molten rock just below the surface. That's a wrap on my 137th sound library from the natural world, and I hope you enjoy listening. I'll talk to you again soon.
